Black Swan

Tonight I saw the film, Black Swan, directed by Darren Aronofsky and with Natalie Portman in the lead. She plays the ballet dancer Nina who gets the part of the Swan Queen in Swan Lake. Nina is apt for the role of the white swan but is too rigid and controlled for the uninhibited black swan. She is coerced by the director of the ballet to embrace the darkness and immerse herself completely in the role. The more Nina loses herself, she starts seeing things and the grip on her own sanity dwindles.

It is quite clear why Natalie Portman won the Academy Award. It is a brilliant performance and a tale that grips at your heart. The sacrifices to reach the coveted goal rings true and ominent.

To know the depths of our heart and soul we sometimes need to embrace the darkness within. It is a treachorous road where we can just as easily lose ourselves instead of finding the key to the inner sanctum. We are a fusion of light and dark, fire and ice and which scale that weighs the heavier is down to something as simple as the luck of the draw.

Perfection in any form comes with a terrible price ....
