Catherine the Great

I just felt like putting a spotlight on a relative on the family tree, Catherine the Great. She was born in Germany in 1729 and named Sophie Friedrike Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg (try saying that ten times fast). She was married of to Paul, nephew to Empress Elizabeth of Russia and in line to the throne. She was given the name Catherine by Elizabeth after her mother, Catherine I. After her husband had been disposed off in 1762 she reigned as empress over Russia until 1796.

She has not gone down in history as being a fashionista but as an extremely strong woman who reigned with force over a big nation.
