Fashion is for the masses but style is individual. Anyone can slap on the latest trend but the expression will be entirely different due to the person wearing the outfit. The saying that style cannot be bought with money is painstakingly obvious in a variety of cases. The thing with trends and fashion is as in every business that it all comes down to profit in the end. Fuck creativity if you can make another buck or another quid.
On the other side of the fence we have the all-important consumers which wallets the fashion businesses want to raid. And we stand there willingly grabbing on to what someone else has told us we must wear. Here another contradiction pops up like an uninvited guest at a dinner party. More and more consumers seem to want to have a more individual way of expressing themselves which in the light of day seems a bit strange since we all run anround looking like copies.
