Outfits last Week

I have so many clothes and a closet that is bursting at the seams. I can't say that I am pulling my weight when it comes to curbing the over consumption that is rampant in the western world.

Since I have so much clothes I rarely wear the same stuff from one day to another.
Above Monday; Mickey Mouse sweater, grey blue chinos, denim jacket and trainers.

Tuesday: Blue jacket, pink t-shirt, jeans and red shoes.

Wednesday: Navy blue trenchcoat, orange jeans, brown t-shirt, grey cardigan and red shoes.

Thursday; Navy blue trenchcoat, green chinos, blue shirt and red and blue check shoes.

Friday; Black jacket, dark blue shirt with dotted print, jeans and black shoes.

That was last week and now I'm well away on this week and with new clothes.

Antidote

When life feels dark and when life feels like shit the comfort given by our four legged friends is the best antidote of all.

Fields of Sorrow

On the fields of sorrow I reap what I have sowed
Roses, bright red roses with thorns in multitude
Thorns so sharp that a prick could stop any heart

Poison mingled with blood to make them grow strong
A sacrifice of light for darkness to wind them round your soul
In retribution to the soul I lost because of you

You said that every interpretation was correct
I have chosen my interpretation looking out over the fields of sorrow

Reiss Sweater

An additional sweater from Reiss is always needed from time to time.

Black

Black has for a long, long time been my favourite colour. Can't explain why. I just like it. Is it because it is slimming? Is it because it matches my soul? Who knows? We don't need an explanation for everything in life, or perhaps we do? Black could be the reason and explanation for many things.

Black is for sorrow and for mourning, at least in the western culture. We dress in black when we say goodbye to a loved one and we have learned that that colour should represent our sadness. Black is also for cool. If you dress in black you are cool. One blogger which I can't remember the name of said that it is drab and boring if a person dresses in black from head to toe. I disagree, totally. It is cool to be completely black, especially if it is summer. What could be cooler than to dress in black in the summer heat and still give the impression of being cooler than a summer's breeze.

No need for discussions, no need for contemplation ... I choose to surrender to the darkness ...

Albino Present Collections and Upcoming

Albino D´Amato is an Italian designer whose work I came across by chance. I like it. It is eyecatching and elegant. Webpage here.

The women's fall colletion 2011 shows some really nice pieces. Still very elegant and eyecatching.

He recently started a men's wear line as well, Albino Deuxieme, which style is a bit different from the women's wear. Some pieces for the spring/summer collection are nice but I wouldn't like to be caught dead in those shorts and socks in sandals will always be a no-no in my book.

I prefer the pieces for the upcoming fall collection where the urge to buy stuff is more present and accounted for.

Poser

A poser. I suppose all men are posers, more or less. A while back I accused a man for being a poser, tongue in cheek of course. Not so sure that came across but even the stars have said that he will at length misunderstand what I say as criticism. My remark made me end up in a blog posting. It boosted my ratings so it is true that nothing can be bad publicity. Of course I'm a poser.

But I do it so well .... ;-)

Veronica Franco - Dangerous Beauty

Another film that is fascinating and intriguing when it both come to clothes and plot is Dangerous Beauty, loosely based on the life of Venetian courtesan and poetess Veronica Franco. The main character is portrayed by Catherine MacCormack and other noted actors are Rufus Sewell and Jacqueline Bisset. The film naturally gives a very romanticized picture of 16th Venice, the life of a courtesan and the state of love but sometimes you need to look on life through rosy coloured lenses.

We get to see the all over powering love between Veronica and the man who can't marry beneath his station. A love beyond reason. So seductive and so life threatening but the best kind of love if you ask me.

Grey Ant Spring Collection 2011

Grey Ant is a New York based clothing label that I came across just because I was intrigued by the name. Isn't it funny how you can find something new and exciting just for the reason of a name. It definitely pays to be curious. Their webpage is under construction at the moment but you can find it here.

As with many other designers and labels this season the 1970s is quite evident as a source of inspiration. I think that the clothes feel fresh and happening. They feel perfect for a warm summer, the kind of summer we all deserve.

I really like the pieces I have seen but with one exception, the black piece below to the right. It looks like it would be more suited for a porno. Well, every designer is allowed one or two creative cerebral haemorrhages now and then I suppose.

Life Hurts

Yes, life hurts. It seems like it is supposed to. Perhaps it is a way to know that we are truly alive? Then of course there are different degrees of pain just as there are different levels of hell. A starving child cannot be compared to a broken heart. On the other hand we don't measure pain through others but in comparison to what we have experienced before.

Then I honestly think that life should hurt a little. Better that then not living at all. You have to taste the dark just as well as the light and then choose the path that you see fit for yourself. You will inevitably meet people that will cause you pain, excrutiating pain but you will also meet people that will make you feel like you have touched the sun and kissed an angel.

We are so worried and waste so much energy on what other people might or might not think about ourselves. We worry so much about how we look and if we are attractive to others that we eat a hole in our souls. A friend of mine wrote something like this on facebook;

"Stop worrying about wrinkles, aching bones and other shit. Life is NOT supposed to be a journey with the goal to reach the grave with as a preserved body as possible, but rather slide in from the side with a bar of chocolate in one hand and a glass of wine in the other and with a body .... that has been thoroughly used ... completely worn out and in the mean time scream; 'WOOHOO, what a hell of a ride!!!' "

I think she completely hit the mark. Life might hurt sometimes but it is supposed to be lived!!!

Wink NYC

Wink NYC offers funloving girlie clothes that can brighten any party or everyday occasion. Wink is a shop and an online business. They recently got the service of shipping worldwide which means that girls everywhere can take part in what Wink has got to offer. Wink has an assortment of designers but also their own lable which is called Wink NYC. As I mentioned before the clothes are girlie, they are colourful and the latest collection has hints of the 1970s and the 1980s in it. Personally I have always found that a dose of the 1970s (used in the right way) can infuse life and fun into a collection. There is no doubt about, we need more fun no matter if we are a boy or a girl. More fun to the people!

W Magazine

W Magazine is an American magazine that in many ways is numero uno and not just because of its bigger size. It has its ear to the ground and depicts what happens in the fashion and media world in a delectable way and inspires with its deliciously shot pictures. W Magazine was created by James Brady who also was behind Women's Wear Daily. It was published by Fairchild Publications but was bought by Condé Nast Publications in 1999.

The magazine has been considered controversial and shocked readers at times like when Steven Meisel shot a spread that was called "A Sexual Revolution" and also when he did a shoot with David and Victoria Beckham. An article with Tom Ford where he was quite frank about sex and sexuality also created controversy.

W Magazine is in many aspects the glossiest of glossies ....

Dsquared - Advertising

I stumbled across these pictures from last season's advertising for dsquared. Very true to the brand because they push the envelope and are thoroughly sexy. The pictures are also cold and harsh. They have a smell of the 1980s with the white faces, the bright red lips and the short, black hair. Of course they can also be seen as disturbing with its blatant play on voyuerism but on the other hand, isn't that what fashion is to a certain extent ... voyuerism ....

Gyms, Men and Peacocks

A gym can be a fascinating place to watch people and watch what they do. I don't mean that in a sexually arousing way, I mean their habits.

We work out for our health but another important factor is to look better in our clothes and be more attractive to the opposite sex, or the same sex as the case may be. Men and women in a gym behave differently. Men feel the need to show that they can benchpress massive amounts of kilos. When they have finished, dreesed in their regular clothes and walk past the mirrors they always look at their mirror image.

In the changing rooms older men are more accustomed to their bodies and have faced the facts of gravity and more or less let everything hang out. Younger guys wrap themselves in towels, wriggle out of their underwear and head to the showers. I find it a bit weird because when they get to the actual showers they have to discard their towel anyway and show themselves as God created them. Because of that their little ritual seems more like a waste of time.

But no matter the age we male humans are just like the male species of any animal. We preen, we pluck and fuss to make us as an attractive apperance as possible.

We are peacocks ....

Dangerous Liaisons

Films can show the most wonderful of clothes and in turn inspire upcoming trends in the fashion world. One film that has a huge display of stunning costumes is Dangerous Liaisons. Breathtaking is a good way of summing it up.

The intrigue is nothing short of devilish, and in actuality the letter book from the 18th century by Choderlos DeLaclos is just that time's version of today's facebook and the dalliances that happen there.

The character, Madame de Merteuil, is a woman scorned and calculated, manipulative and just evil. Quite seductive, indeed.

The film also has one of the best and truest lines in film history: "The ones most worhty of love are very seldom made happy by it."

Family History

I suddenly remembered something yesterday. The funny thing is that my father brought it up as well. Like minds think alike. Isn't that what they say? What we both thought about was a story I was first told when I was nine years old.

The story was about two uncles of my paternal grandfather. The two brothers emigrated to America and experienced different fates. One became a bluecollar worker and the other started a successful company in the dairy business. The latter one married a native American woman and had two sons. He gave his sons fast sports cars. They both died in a car accident.

It sounds like a fairytale but is apparently true. When I was nine I had a picture of Indians which I had got from the Western movies. I thought it was really cool that I had had relatives that were Indians.

I feel a sudden urge to fill in the blanks and write a book about it .....

Brideshead Revisited

Now this is style.

It has been years and years since I saw the TV-series Brideshead Revisited with Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews but that impeccable upper class style stayed with me. But for the life of me I can't remember the significance of the teddybear.

Paul Smith Fall Collection 2011

You got to love a man who puts a Bowler hat in his collection. It is usually very easy to love Paul Smith. The fall collection for 2011 doesn't exactly present an surprises. Paul Smith continues his journey of making classics with a twist. Clothes with an infusion of Brittish quirkyness is like chocolate for me. Irresistible.
