Tom Ford Fall 2012

Tom Ford cunningly releases his fall collection later than others. The man is nothing short of a creative and marketing genius. The things we have seen is the stunning dress worn by Gwyneth Paltrwo and now a preview of the collection. I stumled across it because one of Nina Garcia's tweets on Twitter. Watch it here. It is so good. So good I could consider becoming a woman just to be able to wear them. And Tom Ford I would marry in an instanst, but I don't need to turn into a woman for that.

Christmas at Selfridges

As I have said earlier Christmas at Harrods is a treat and so it is at Selfridges which I for some reason always have preferred to the former. Lots of goodies to buy at this department store like a bag from Ralph Lauren, an Edwardian shaving set from Taylor of Bond Street and perfume from Tom Ford.

Tom Ford Spring 2012

Tom Ford seems to go from strength to strength and I would that the upcoming collection feels playful. It is like he has put the 1920s, Studio 54 and the 1980s into the mix, if that now is humanly possible. Well, whatever, it looks good.

Tom Ford Fall 2011

Tom Ford always delievers an air of sexiness and I love him for it. Lots of pieces that some kind person can sure make their way to under my Christmas tree. The style of fall 2011 has been a success with a hint of The Great Gatsby.

Rodeo Drive

Today I spent the day on Rodeo Drive in the blistering Californian heat. I thought I was going to melt and dissolve on the pavements. Lucky then that there are so many shops with cool air conditioning to save your day. You could easily ruin the economy of a small country in these palaces of luxury. My absolute favourites were Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford and Gucci. Scandinavia has their representatives like George Jensen and Bang & Olufsen and Nudie Jeans in Barneys were I incidentally had a lovely lunch on the top floor.

W Magazine

W Magazine is an American magazine that in many ways is numero uno and not just because of its bigger size. It has its ear to the ground and depicts what happens in the fashion and media world in a delectable way and inspires with its deliciously shot pictures. W Magazine was created by James Brady who also was behind Women's Wear Daily. It was published by Fairchild Publications but was bought by Condé Nast Publications in 1999.

The magazine has been considered controversial and shocked readers at times like when Steven Meisel shot a spread that was called "A Sexual Revolution" and also when he did a shoot with David and Victoria Beckham. An article with Tom Ford where he was quite frank about sex and sexuality also created controversy.

W Magazine is in many aspects the glossiest of glossies ....

A Single Man

I saw the film "A Single Man" today, eons after everbody else. I liked it very much and it was perfect for a lazy sunday afternoon filled with potential for contemplation and soulsearching. The clothes of the period are great, and the make-up and the interior design, and I could go on for ever. Great acting, good direction and fantastic imagery do not make the whole affair any worse.

I could marry Tom Ford for this film alone ...

Tom Ford

The closest thing you can get to a God in the fashion world is Tom Ford. Everything he has touched has turned to gold and many are those who sacrifice their grandmother to have the same wrap sheet as Tom Ford.

He was born in 1961 in Austin, Texas (poor man). At the tender age of 17 he moved to New York to study art history. After a few eventful turns he ended up in the fashion business. Tom Ford felt that Europeans apreciated style more and jumped at the opportunity to hot up the Gucci brand. Before Tom Ford got his hands on Gucci the image was expensive and old lady. Tom Ford turned it around to the hottest thing around with people on waiting lists for the now so desirable Gucci goods.

After he did the same thing with Yves Saint Laurent that also belonged to the LVMH group and then in 2005 he continued the success story when he launched his own brand. He used very eye popping and raunchy advertising that created quite the stir which yet again proves the point that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

In 2009 Tom Ford produced and directed his first film, A Single Man, to critical acclaim. The saga of Tom Ford is indeed ongoing.

I read in an article that on the height of his success he had an existensial crisis and wondered what was there to do next. Evidently he got out of it but it is comforting for us mere mortals that even a "God" can fall down in a black hole.

Personally I could eat him up with a spoon.
