Gaultier has done what I think is a smashing collection for fall 2012. I like the black, the leather and the feeling of rock and roll. He creates a more sophisticated look nowadays than earlier but he still has some quirky details which brings the creations to a new level.

Two of my favourites in one. Delicious pop princess, Kylie Minogue, in a dress from l'enfant terrible Jean-Paul Gaultier. If we had had Pierre et Gilles in the mix we would have touched perfection.

Andrej Pejic

Andrej Pejic is a rare bird in the fashion world. This twenty year old who is half Serbian and half Croatian brings a new meaning to the word androgynous. Slap on a bit of make-up and you couldn't distinguish him from any other of the girls. He does fashion shows for both womenswear and menswear. In January last year he did the menswear show for Marc Jacobs and for Jean-Paul Gaultier he did the shows for both men and women. Andrej was on the May cover for the New York based magazine Dossier Journal with his shirt off and in curlers, and Barnes & Noble deemed to be too controversial and had them in opaque sleeves.

At the moment Andrej Pejic has created more controversy when the Dutch company, Hema Lingerie, used him as a model for their push-up bra. Even the liberal Dutch are supposed to be stunned by this and the word is that designers make their clothes with boys in mind and not women. That is a bit retarded since all designers aren't gay men and designers who are women use the same skinny models as the rest of them. I write it off as shock tactics and it works. They have press and publicity for a staggering amount of money, and basically for free.


There has been men who have modeled women's clothes before and Andrej won't be the last, but he is the only one who has been in an advert for women's underwear, so far. The fashion world has always been interested in the controversial, and a boy who can be mistaken for a girl is controversial. You can imagine that straight men shit a brick when they are attracted by this young woman and in the next instant find out that she is a he.

The actual fluidity of human sexuality is really scary to some, and to them a man like Andrej Pejic can be seen as a threat.

Two outfits from the spring collection for 2012 by Jean-Paul Gaultier, that also used to be called l'enfant terrible. The clothes are very Gaultier, very French and with just enough touch of sexiness. Spring is looking up, at least from where I'm sitting.

Jean-Paul Gaultier has as ever done a sexy collection. Perhaps not the most wearable in existence but when has that been the priority with a catwalk collection? Gaultier goes his own way and that is to be admired. His style seems to fit pop- and rock stars the best and luckily many of his customers are.

They call him l'enfant terrible (I think that is the way to spell it). Jean-Paul Gaultier is the wild child of French fashion and he has given us some shockers through the years. Madonna's cone bras and skirts on men. Perhaps not the most wearable of things but his fashion shows are to die for.

When I lived in London during my college years he co-hosted a tv-show called euro-trash. We got used to his English with the cute French accent and learned that he had great looking legs. He is a breath of fresh air in a business that needs a good run through from time to time.

Once you go Gaultier you never go back ...

Label Whore

Ebay and Amazon. Those are two webpages I surf into frequently in a mist of "must have". A steady stream of packages arrive at my door step containing books, clothes and other knick-knakcks. It starts with a hunt for interesting objects. Page up and page down of more or less desirable things. Then the bidding starts. What should my strategy be? What should my maximum bid be? In my mail box messages come that I have won certain auctions and that I have been outbid in others with the question if I want to bid higher. I have to confess that I more often than seldom break my maximum limit. Just one more bid and it is MINE!

Do you start seeing a pattern?

I have clothes up to my neck, literaly. In my wardrobe I have representatives from Hugo Boss, Donna Karan, Tommy Hillfiger, Vivienne Westwood and Jean-Paul Gaultier. To what use one can ask? Do I became happier because I have a belt from Gucci around my waist? The answer is of course no. A small rush of happiness that lasts for five to ten minutes after the actual purchase and then it is just another thing sacrificed on the altar of consumption.

Our result obsessed society wants us to consume and top last years sale figures. Money makes the world go round. Both you and I know that when we have pulled our heads up from the sand we stand in front of the cold, hard fact that there is a limit of what we can spend, can consume and what our planet can handle.

There are people out the there in the real world, outside this digital bubble, who spend thousands of pounds on things they don't really need and put themselves in debt. They are stuck in a whirlwind where shopping is the same as happiness and stuck in a dependence just as strong as the one that drugs induce.

I'm not in debt because of my shopping. Thank heavens! But I know myself and I have the strength to stand up and admit that I'm a label whore.
