Louis Vuitton Spring 2012

Louis Vuitton has looked to the 1950s when creating the spring collection 2012. Spectacular, interesting, luxurious are words that spring to mind when looking at these clothes. I feel that the French luxury company has done a brilliant work with the collection that is coming up.

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs, designer of his own label and Creative Director for Louis Vuitton used to be an average built guy but a few years ago he buffed up. This led to that he started to show his new form in ads for Louis Vuitton and for his own perfume. I can't say that I blame him. If you have spent hours in a gym and constantly have to consider what you eat and drink then I think you are allowed to shed all your layers and show yourself in all your newfound glory.

Louis Vuitton Bag

A Louis Vuitton damier graphite bag would cheer me up at the moment. Not that I really need cheering up but for that bag I can decide to be sad for a moment or two.

Shame on Louis Vuitton

Today I read in the paper that Louis Vuitton in 2008 sued the Danish artist, Nadia Plesner, for using one of their bags on a print on a t-shirt. The print was of a dark skinned boy with a chihuahua and a Louis Vuitton bag. Known attributes of Paris Hilton and in stark contrast to the poor boy. The t-shirts were sold to raise money for children in Darfur. The Danish artist was sued by Louis Vuitton and the company wanted £10 000 a day for each day that Nadia Plesner kept on selling the t-shirts after she had information of the lawsuit. She stopped selling the t-shirts.

This January she displayed a painting, a pastisch of Picasso's Guernica. Now the Louis Vuitton bag had been joined by bags from Chanel and Hermés. Nadia Plesner got a letter from Louis Vuitton that they wanted £5 000 for each day the painting remained on display. For some reason nor Chanel or Hermés has done the same. I can fully understand that a company wants to protects his designs but it was a print on a t-shirt, a t-shirt that was sold to raise money for charity. Oh dear.

Louis Vuitton is owned by the conglomerate LVMH, a company rich beyond words. A powerful company but the ultimate power lies with the consumers. If the consumers stop buying the company is one step closer to the grave.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2011

A few years ago the well known luxury company Louis Vuitton added clothes to their established bags and accessories. It could have gone straight to hell, as it sometimes do when companies try to conquer new territory but it didn't. The designers have stayed true to the feel and atmosphere that we have grown accustomed to concerning Louis Vuitton's other products.

The collection that is out right now is no exception. I would like to describe the style as decadent safari. Can't you imagine yourself at night in Kenya after a long day looking for "the big five" and then having slipped into cool Louis Vuitton with a Vodka Martini in your hand? I suppose we have to win that lottery first ...

The bags of Louis Vuitton are beautiful, granted, but the pattern and monogram is also one of the most copied in the world. What's the point of wasting a small fortune on something that every Tom, Dick and Harry run around with?
