Hippies

Originally Hippie was a youth movement that started in the US in the mid 1960s with its centre in San Francisco. I knew there was a reason why I love that city. The hippies were a evolvement from the Beatniks and they also created their own communities, listening to psychodelic rock, living according the practices of free love and using drugs like LSD and cannabis.

The most famous events of this movement are the Summer of Love on the west coast of the US and the Woodstock Festival in 1969 on the east coast. The hippie movement was not only in the US but also in Australia, the UK and the rest of the western world.

Today we have, even if we don't think of it that way, things and movements in our society that derive from the hippies. These are cultural things like music festivals and health food but also sexual progression and believe it or not the cyberspace revolution.

When it comes to style and fashion the clothes they wore were floral and muliticoloured with intricate patterns. Can you become anything but happy when you look at these pictures. The hippies were closer to nature than we are today and they celebrated life and love. Not a bad legacy.

We could probably use a bit more hippie in our lives - hippie de luxe ....

A View to a Kill

On television right now, James Bond in "A View to a Kill". I think I've seen it about thirty times but I never get tired of it. The 1980s at the max, Paris and San Francisco, Grace Jones dressed from head to toe in Azzedine Alaia, Swedish Mary Stavin as one of the Bond Girls, music by Duran Duran, Fiona Fullerton and we have a mix that promises to be memorable and it is.

Incidentally, I almost accidentally knocked Fiona Fullerton over at Waitrose on Kings Road many years ago.
